ICT and Connected Communities Overview

This department works to provide disadvantaged men and women with the skills and resources to find meaningful employment in their communities. One key theme is improving computers access and skills for underdeveloped communities. This includes Microsoft and Cisco certification courses. The department also provides business and management training to micro and small businesses (MSEs).

‘Fouras’ - CCBI Centers

Funded by Cisco Systems, Inc., Digital Opportunities Trust, Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, and the Partnership for Lebanon between 2008 and 2010, this project will create 12 Connected Communities and Business Initiative (CCBI) centers around Lebanon, providing Microsoft and Cisco certification courses and teaching computing basics to local residents. The centers provide free access and research facilities to youth groups, NGOs, and more. The eight centers are located in all regions of Lebanon: North, Bekaa, Mount Lebanon, South, and Nabatieh.

WAKIB (Women & Adults Knowledge Development in ICT and Business)

Funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Cisco Systems, Inc. between 2008 and 2010, the project had two components. The first, called "Reach Up", benefitted 913 unemployed women and children around the country with technical and business skills training. The second component, called "Scale Up", provided 60 individuals and small businesses around the country with IT and business skills training.
