POLIO Campaign in LEBANON

The YMCA-Lebanon, in partnership with the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health,  UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) has launched its 2nd Polio Campaign in an effort to administer the polio vaccine to children in 6 different Lebanese Caza’s. The campaign will be presented in two parts, with the first launched on October 22nd and ending October 27th. The vaccine’s are being administered either in local schools or via door-to-door home visits.

By 2003, Lebanon had been declared a polio-free nation, thanks in great part to the consistency with which polio vaccinations were being administered. Unfortunately, with the outbreak of the July 2006 War, many routine services were disrupted, including this very important vaccination. As a result, many children due for polio vaccines were not given their necessary shots. The YMCA-Lebanon, with its partnerships, established the Polio Campaign to service these children with the Polio vaccinations they require to help Lebanon remain Polio-free!

The YMCA intends to launch the second wave of its campaign on November 22nd through November 29th.
